Any good website is a direct reflection of their brand and business. But there are 5 key features every homepage needs to make potential clients convert to repeat business. Ready for the secret sauce? Let’s go!
- Your Brand: The MOST important thing about your homepage is that it should reflect your brand! If you are your brand, then your face should be alllll over that page. If you brand is more about your portfolio, there should be a bajillion pictures of that (okay, please refrain from the bajillion pictures thing, but a website designer can help you narrow down to the exact number you will need). Your logo, color palette, type suite, and imagery should be all over that homepage so that there is no mistaking that it belongs to you.
- Readability: Yes, this refers to your copy, but also the intentional design of your website. Your homepage should be clean and easy to read. The last thing you want is for someone to click away simply because 7 different busy patterns confused them. Make sure your website designer understands the science behind design that converts.

- Photos: I referred to this a little bit earlier, but photos are a must. Although some people are more visual learners than others, we all love to take in content visually (how do we think Instagram has gotten so huge??) Well-placed photos on your homepage help build a connection with potential clients and create a sense of mastery for your business.
- Personality-Packed Copy: The words on your homepage should tie so closely in with your brand that your reader has no idea they are any different. One key tip for this is working with a brand strategist. They can help you refine your brand voice and keep your copy and imagery cohesive. Brand strategy is part of all of my branding packages, but if you are looking for strategy as a separate service, feel free to send me a message! You could also work with a copywriter to do this work for you. I have worked with some amazing copywriters in case you need a connection, I would be happy to refer you.
- Finally, ALL THE BUTTONS: I mean sure, buttons are fun to click, but really you should have buttons in most sections of your homepage (and really, all over your website). You want your potential client to have endless opportunities to simply press and button and get in touch with you. Buttons provide the simplicity of one-click connections. For example, adding this link right here. Now you can send me an email to say “I loved your blog post!” 😉
