SEO (aka, Search Engine Optimization) is one of those things you hear a lot about but don’t really understand, and at this point, you’re too afraid to ask. Well, as a web designer and SEO strategist, it’s my job to make SEO easy to understand, because it actually is pretty simple. In this blog, I’m sharing an SEO strategy example for a real client: Laura McMullin Photography.
Great question. It might sound like some fancy technical term, but an SEO strategy is simply a plan for your website and content. The goal isn’t just to get more traffic, but to get more aligned visitors on your website. A strategy consists of keyword research, on-page optimization, website copy edits, and blog strategy and planning.

Laura is a brand and wedding photographer in Baltimore, Maryland. She came to me wanting more organic traffic on her website. She had been working with a copywriter (my friend Jo at J. Flynn Copywriting!) and had been consistently posting optimized, high-value blogs, but the traffic just wasn’t coming. That’s when Jo sent her to me, and I started investigating what went wrong.
After a quick audit, I saw that despite posting consistent, high-quality content, Laura’s website was missing the SEO basics. Her core website pages lacked proper keyword research, metadata, and headlines. We needed to correct that before we did anything else!
We started with keyword research. I found the keywords that her ideal clients would be searching for, and mapped out exactly how to use them within her core pages. Then, we set up her Google Search Console account and submitted her site maps. This is an essential step because it shows Google exactly where all of your content is, so it can be crawled and then placed in the right searches!
We saw her traffic double almost immediately. She went from 1 click a day to between 4 and 10 clicks per day—within one month. Because she had a backlog of good content, the moment her website was updated and her sitemaps were submitted, Google started sharing it! It landed in front of the right audience, and her traffic boomed.
She’s continued to post SEO blogs, and her traffic is still growing. Now, she’s getting inquiries without having to post on Instagram 24/7. And because her website is fully optimized, a blog she posted nearly a year ago is still driving visitors to her website. Just take a look at this graph to see how her traffic has increased!

Laura’s SEO strategy example is just one out of dozens. You’d be amazed by how many people invest big money into a professional website, only to learn that it isn’t actually optimized. This is why I offer personalized SEO audits! Because no matter how pretty your website is, if it’s not optimized, it’s basically just a digital business card. You don’t need more business cards. You need a website that can get you in front of the right people, like, yesterday. Fill out the contact form to schedule your SEO Audit and learn how you can increase your traffic just like Laura.
“I felt like the process was seamless and easy to follow. I also really liked that it didn’t take a long time from the initial questionnaire to start seeing results. I’m already seeing amazing movement even one week post-website edits, and it’s amazing to feel like I’m more visible to folks online. I think your work speaks for itself. This was an amazing investment!”
